There are billions of pages indexed, it's obvious not all of them can be listed in the top 10. Optimization is the key element for your companies success, to have any positive results from the Internet your search engine marketing - promotion campaign must contain proven ethical methods aimed towards topic keyword relevance.

Search engines only list websites that they find relevant to a special topic. You must make sure that your website is such a site. If search engines cannot find out that your web site is about pots and pans, they cannot give your web site high rankings for that keyword. The process of optimizing your web pages so that search engines find them relevant is called search engine optimization (SEO). Search engines use mathematical formulas to determine the rank of a web page, these mathematical formulas are called ranking algorithms. Many companies recognize that search engines can bring volumes of highly targeted prospects to their business, typically at a fraction of the cost of traditional marketing. "Pretend that you're a search engine. Pick a query like civil war or recycling or whatever you want. Search for the phrase on Google, pick three or four pages from the results, and print them out. On each printout, find the individual words from your query (such as "civil" and "war") and use a highlighter to mark each word with colour. Do that for each of the 3-5 documents that you print out. Now tape those documents on a wall, step back a few feet and squint your eyes. If you didn't know what the rest of a page said, and could only judge by the coloured words, which document do you think would be most relevant?. How often do the words need to appear?. See if you can come up with 2-3 things you would look for to see if a document matched a query well.
